Sieve & Sort Dehydrated Onion

Sieve & sort dehydrated onion with our FDA complied sifters

This blog provides an overview of the farm-to-table journey of dehydrated onions, including their types and varieties, as well as their uses and applications, as well as information on how and where FDA-compliant sifters play a key role in their production.

Despite their name, dried and dehydrated onions are powders and granules that can be stored and used for an extended period of time (depending on their packaging).

Dehydrated onion flakes and powder can be used in a variety of ways. It has many uses, including seasoning a variety of dishes, being a primary ingredient in sauces, snacks, and drinks, and being used in cooking as a substitute for fresh onions due to its ease of handling & elimination of the need for chopping them, as an ingredient in various mixed spices, and many other applications.

Additionally, dehydrated onions have numerous health benefits in addition to reducing the effort associated with chopping a fresh onion. In addition to being low in fat and calories, dehydrated onions are also high in potassium and calcium.

On the market, dehydrated onions are available in a variety of sizes, including flakes, chopped, minced, granules, and powder. Every type of dehydrated onion begins with the same process.

Let’s see how dehydrated onions are made and where & why sifters and sorters play an important role.

From farm to manufacturing unit

The process of growing and cultivating onions begins with the dehydration of onions. Farmers grow onions and supply them to manufacturers.

Peeling & washing

Once the onions have been received, they are stored and unloaded as necessary. The onions are peeled off after they have been unloaded in order to remove any unwanted outer portions. Peeled onions are cleaned in a water tunnel with a sodium hypochlorite solution containing 90-100 PPM.

Slicing & Drying

As soon as the onions have been properly washed, they are sent to a slicing machine to be cut and sliced. Onions are dehydrated and dried in an imperial dryer. For the onion to retain its taste and aroma, a total of five stages are involved in the automatic drying process.

Sieving/grading

Vibratory sieving machines are used to remove the skin, husk, and unevenly sized dehydrated onions from dried and dehydrated kibble. The Linea Sivtek® linear and rectangular sieving machine may be most suitable for the screening of dehydrated onions.

Color sorting

Furthermore, the dehydrated onions are passed through an optical color sorter in order to eliminate impurities such as black particles.

Metal Detection

During the preceding process, magnetic rods or magnetic separator belts are used to remove any ferrous metal impurities. In order to remove ferrous impurities, Galaxy Sivtek offers a variety of magnetic solutions, including magnetic rods and magnetic belts.

Sizing & Milling

Dehydrated onions are milled and ground into chopped, minced, granules, or powder forms according to the buyer’s persona and the market demand.

Grading, sieving & safety screening

After the dehydrated onion has been milled into the desired size, it is graded, de-dusted, sieved, and safety screened. Dehydrated onions are processed into five different sizes.

Safety screening, de-dusting, gradation & sieving is mandatory to process in order

1. For the purpose of ensuring that the product is free of contaminants (removing unwanted foreign matter)

2. To achieve uniform size (by passing it through different sizes of mesh opening screens)

There is a wide range of Sivtek round vibro screens & centrifugal sifters, including Sivtek Vibro Separator®, Sivtek Tumbler Screen®, Inline Sivtek®, and Sivtek Roto Sifter®, which are proven to be effective for screening, sieving, and grading dried onions.

Packing

After the product has been sieved and screened, it is weighed, packed, and sealed in poly bags that resist moisture or are moisture-proof. It is now possible to dispatch these poly bags in corrugated boxes or paper bags.
