Case Study: Enhancing Mixed Spice Sieving Efficiency with Super Sivtek® Separator

Overview

In the Indian food industry, maintaining consistency, hygiene, and efficiency is essential for producing blended spices. Every blend has to consistently achieve a uniform texture and the ideal balance of aroma and taste. But the manufacturers face a big challenge to carry out this accuracy in large quantities.

To meet these challenges, one of the largest FMCG manufacturers in India partnered with Galaxy Sivtek to improve their spice processing line. The aim was to raise sieving capacity, secure contamination-free operation in a limited production area and enhance product consistency.

Galaxy Sivtek supplied its flagship Super Sivtek® Vibro Separator, tailored to the unique nature of mixed spices produced which is reputed to be very fine, moist and sticky, causing sieving trouble.

Challenge

During processing, mixed spice manufacturers face multiple challenges:

  1. Limited Space, High Output Demand
    The existing layout of the facility required increased throughput. The conventional vibro separators were unable to meet the required output because of the limited power of vibration and the non-optimal utilization of screen area.
  2. Material Moisture and Stickiness
    Mixed spices tend to retain natural moisture and oils, which results in clumping and blinding the openings in the separator. Lower efficiency and increase potential downtime to clean the separator.
  3. Need for a Fully Enclosed Hygienic System
    As the product was food-grade, the contamination control was of utmost importance. The client demanded a dust-tight and enclosed system while at the same time keeping the air pressure inside the separator at a proper level.

Solution: Customized Super Sivtek® Separator

Galaxy Sivtek’s Sieving machine was designed and engineered to handle exactly these kinds of challenges. It creates vibrations that are three times more powerful than standard separators, thus allowing a higher throughput and 95% sieving efficiency at the same time without enlarging the machine size.

With the aim of troubleshooting specific issues related to the product, the engineering team came up with the following custom features:

  • Dual Deblinding System:
    • A Ball & Tray arrangement below the mesh ensures continuous tapping to dislodge lumps and prevent clogging.
    • A Top Air Cleaning System eliminates the mesh surface from wet or greasy residues, thus making the procedure of sieving uniform.
  • Pressure Management System:
    The complete setup was enclosed for hygienic operation. To keep the air pressure inside the chamber from getting too high due to the vibration, an air-venting nozzle was appointed to safely release the excess air pressure.
  • Tailor-Made Configuration:
    Every component from the mesh specification to the discharge outlets was fine-tuned to match the spice blend’s flow characteristics and particle size distribution.

Result

After implementing the tailored Super Sivtek® solution, the manufacturer was able to achieve:

  • 3x more throughput than standard separators
  • Over 95% sieving efficiency that guaranteed even spice texture
  • No more mesh choking and a significant drop in manual cleaning needs
